A Pin Badge can be secured to any clothing or piece of cloth with the help of a safety pin or any similar such mechanism. The pin used for attaching the badge to the cloth piece is installed and securely fixed to the backside of the badge. Initially, Pin badges were produced with metal. But in 1896, John Whitehead patented the first pin badge made of celluloid with a metal pin attached to the back of the badge, acting as a fastener. Since then, they have remained more or less the same with the only difference being the change in the material used i.e. from celluloid to plastic acetate.

Types of Pin Badges

In addition, various types of pin badges are made for various purposes and classified based on the process used to manufacture them.
Enamel badges: These are made with metal and enamel colors, where the colors are filled in the recess of the metal pins, which are subsequently baked. Post-baking, based on the process used, the enamel either takes a dip and leaves a raised impression on the surface, or it becomes flat and plain.
Printed badges: Using either an offset printer or a screen printer, a high-quality logo is printed in a metal surface to create a metal badge. Screen printed badges have less colors than Offset printed badges.
Embossed and engraved badges: For these badges, mostly the metals used are Copper, Brass and Zinc Alloy, and Aluminum. Embossing is a stamping process where the metal piece is stamped to get either a raised or a pressed in design.
Pin badges have been in use for generation and shall be fashionable for a long time. They can be used for various purposes such as promotion, branding, Achievement recognition, etc. That is why they are so much in trend.
