MY THESIS HAS ALL THE ESSENTIAL POINTS?

INTRODUCTION:

The word ‘’thesis’’ refers to a kind of statement but the difference between an ordinary statement and a thesis statement is that a thesis statement has to be proven or justified with reasoning and proofs. It involves a kind of essay which involves the personal research of a person and is usually written by a student for their final year in university. In universities, the thesis is taken as a final year project or before one graduate, they have to do the thesis work.

You are assigned a topic and in some cases, people are even given the choice to choose their own statements for the thesis work. One has to do all the research, experimentation and give their own point of views on the topic. The thesis is based on whatever degree and whatever subject you have opted for. For example, a thesis for media studies might be different than that for an engineering one. You have to write and compose your thesis in such a manner or way, that the readers are convinced about your point of view. Everything must be so elaborated and clear, that even if a person has little to no knowledge about the topic, they can easily understand it.

HOW DO I KNOW THAT MY THESIS HAS ALL THE ESSENTIAL POINTS?

If you want to acknowledge if your thesis has all the necessary points or not, then you must consider the following things.

Your thesis must answer the question. You must include all your research points into the thesis.

The thesis must include the ‘’how what and why’’ test because that is very important. If your thesis answers all these questions, then know that your thesis is complete and fully elaborated with all the required authentic information in it. Quoting examples and also, mentioning your research work and the places that you have visited and taken reports from for the purpose of your thesis must also be mentioned.

You can even include relatable pictures. If you are mentioning percentages and numerical values, then you might even include graphic pictures.

CAN WE USE COPIED IMAGES FOR OUR UNIVERSITY THESIS?

So as mentioned above, you can use pictures and graphs to make your thesis look appealing and presentable. However, one thing that must be considered and must not be ignored at any cost is that the copyrights exist. If there is no copyright issue then you can easily copy the images but if the copyrights exist and you are very much fascinated with the work of the owner of the picture or the picture is very appealing and you think you MUST include it in the thesis work but on the negative side, the picture is protected by copyrights, then here is what you can do to include the copied images protected by copyrights in your university thesis.

1- The Moral right of the owner.
The moral right that the owner has, is that first they must be informed that you want to use their work in your university thesis. You must also appreciate and admire the work and let them know of how interested you are in their work.

2- Ask for their permission.
Once you are in touch with the owner of the pictures you must also ask for permission. Tell them that you are using their pictures for a ‘’right’’ purpose and for nothing that you want to do wrong. After that, if they allow you to use the pictures, then you can, if they still don’t want anyone to copy their work, then you must just back-off. Using the pictures otherwise would be considered stealing and they might even cause a legal issue as their picture is protected by copyrights.  If you don’t know what is the exact source of the image, then use similar image finder By Google, Bing or Yandex.

3- If they give you the permission, resolve the copyright issue.
Either they can let you borrow it, or they can simply make it flexible enough so that you can use the pictures. You must only use the pictures once you are sure that the copyright issue has been resolved.

Now when it comes to text, it is usually preferred that you must not copy it from the internet because that might give you the red signal in the form of ‘’plagiarism’’. But when it comes to using pictures and images, then you can and cannot in some cases. It depends.

If a picture is protected by copyrights and you still decide to use it in your thesis work, then know that the owner can actually take an action against you legally. Therefore, seeking the permission and resolving the copyrights issues in the ways that have been mentioned above is very important. And it might not take you a lot of time. However, if you need to submit your thesis on a specific date and you have spent a lot of time in researching and writing the text and have no time left, then you might not go for it and actually have a backup because you do not know if the author would respond immediately or would even respond or not. Resolving the copyright issue might also take time. On the other hand, if the pictures are not protected by copyrights and you are sure they are not, then you need not worry and can easily copy the pictures and use them in your thesis.

However, know that once you have solved the copyrights issue, then no one would have a problem with you using copied images in your university thesis. But if you actually work hard on your thesis and capture your own pictures to put into the thesis work, then it might be more appreciated and people might prefer your thesis more. To make them look like your own, you can put a watermark of your name at the bottom of the pictures or images that you are using. This way, the reader will know that it all the effort that you have put into the thesis. You can capture pictures at the places where you have gone for the purpose of your research work.
