Now, the real deal begins. What to pack first when moving.

When trying to figure out what to pack first and last when moving, the best way to begin the task is to pre-pack. Pre packing is an effective and efficient packing strategy where you will be packing things that you won’t be needing until moving day. This way you will be able to use your everyday goods conveniently while the other stuff will be boxed and packed ready to move anytime. So, when considering the things to pack, you should start with the non-essential items on your residence.

Books and magazines: Although you may love reading books and magazines when it comes to relocating you will probably not need them. More specifically, you won’t have the time to read them. It’s because you’ll have to invest much more time in the whole pre-moving process. You can use small sturdy boxes and start packing the books and magazines. Remember books are surprisingly heavy especially if stack together. So find some boxes that are sturdy.

Collected items: The next things to pack is the collectible items in your home. You will not have time to bask in memories and stare at things like photo albums, model sets, action figurines, coin collections, etc.

Cloth Wear: One of the first things you should start packing before the moving day is the clothes and shoes you don’t plan to wear before the day of the move. This includes the out of season clothes that you won’t be able to wear even if you want to and luxury shoes that will be just dirty if you use them. For example, if you are moving during summer then you will not be able to wear your fur coat.

Decorative items: Pack all the framed pictures, photos, and painting along with souvenirs, vases, and other artworks you won’t be gawking before the move. Of course, you may be a person who likes art and your home may not be the same without these items, but you won’t have the time to become sentimental as the moving coming soon.

Jewelry: You will probably not have any plan to wear any jewelry before the moving day which is why you should pack up all the jewelry of your home immediately. Most of all, the expensive jewelry must reach your new home safely so it’s better to pack those items as early as possible.

As a thumb of rule, you should pack up the things you won’t need before the moving day and the whole process will become much easier for you.
