How to pack your closet before moving into your new NYC apartment?

Are you planning on moving to NYC anytime soon? Well, that is great news! NYC was and it will always continue to be on everybody’s wishlist. But, how does one pack the closet for moving there? Trust us, it is not as easy as it sounds. Packing for this concrete jungle will require a lot of planning and preparation. But, do not worry, we are here to help you out. Thus, if you want to know how to pack your closet before moving into your new NYC apartment, keep on reading.

Declutter and Downsize

First things first, it is important to remember that life in NYC is crazy-expensive. And, unless you are a millionaire, you will probably end up living in a tiny apartment and maybe even sharing it with a roommate or two. So, you get the point – you will not have enough place for storing all of your clothing items. Thus, make an effort to declutter and downsize your closet. Get rid of the items you no longer wear. You can, for example, give them to charity, sell them, or throw them away if they are completely worn out and in tatters. Pack items that are about to be moved only if you are 100% sure that you will wear them again.

Make Sure Everything is Clean

The next step towards packing your closet before moving into your NYC apartment is thoroughly cleaning each and every item. And, why is that important? Because if you put your dirty or damp clothes into a box, everything inside that same box might be ruined completely. Everything will become smelly and maybe even moldy. So, do yourself a favor and clean everything properly. That way, when you arrive in your new NYC apartment, the only thing you will have to do is transfer the items from the boxes into your new closet. This can save your clothes as well as your time, money, and energy.

Gather Moving Supplies and Pack Your Items Properly

And finally, it is time for packing your clothes for relocation. In order to do so, you will first need to gather packing materials. You will need cardboard boxes, wardrobe boxes, vacuum or compression bags, duffel bags, suitcases. Then, try to separate clothes by their sort. For instance, sort them by material, by season, by type, etc. Place everything neatly into boxes or bags and seal everything properly. And, once you are in your new apartment, try to unpack the clothing items as soon as possible to avoid having the ‘relocation’ smell on them.
