Many aspirants dream and start their struggle from their high school to qualify for IIM Colleges in India. There are thousands of students who enrol themselves for this assessment exam. Few of them are eligible in this top-notch exam, but most of them usually fail.

But have you ever wondered what is the prerequisite to qualify for the entrance exam? Is your CAT 2020 percentile sufficient to get a call from IIM College? How much score is minimum required in class 10th and 12th to qualify the eligibility criteria?

On giving a minute of thinking to the above-asked questions, let us tell you the premium Indian Institute of Management:

  • IIM Ahmedabad
  • IIM Bangalore
  • IIM Calcutta
  • IIM Lucknow
  • IIM Indore
  • IIM Kozhikode

The case-study below defines the educational profile of more than 500 current students/graduates from IIM. The lines show the percentage of people who belong to one of the five categories of the 10th, 12th percentiles and graduates.

In the past two years, IIM Ahmedabad has checked in candidates in their institution based on their CAT performance (70% by weight) and their application profile (30% by weight).

The work experience was only proposed as a selection criterion for lot PGP 2020-2022 at IIM Ahemdabad and is therefore not included in the analysis of this report.

An essential point for IIM Ahemdabad candidates is that IIM Ahmedabad will assign more weight (35%) to the profile of a candidate from 2020.

Observations: Approximately 90% of students/graduates have more than 90% marks in their high school and intermediate. Mostly students from ICSE or CBSE clear the exam as compared to other state boards.

About 10% of 500 students included in this report have secured a rank in the college by getting less than 70% scoring in secondary school, which is although not a large number. This indicates that IIMs are more likely to award grades over the years. Low-grading candidates likely had a less chance of selection.

Besides, not a single graduate in this report has secured less than 70% in 10th or below 60% in 12th standard; who is selected for the management course.

Estimate: The Data shows that as IIM candidates are likely to be successful compared to the rest of the Institutes. But if you are a candidate with less than 80% of the 10th and/or 12th and/or less than 60%, it might not reflect on your success in life but selection into IIM over other candidates for having more marks- it’s more of a long shot here. Therefore your chances are significantly less.

Apart from this, students should focus on their physical as well as social well being. These are very important for their healthy mind and healthy body which supports during preparation.
